Palmetto Breeze provides a wide variety of public transportation services in five Lowcountry counties. If you are riding to and from work or just taking a trip to the coast, you will travel in air conditioned comfort on our luxurious coaches that offer audio and video entertainment.

 

Palmetto Breeze offers services from 4:30 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Sunday. Palmetto Breeze also offers great deals such as a 10% savings for buying weekly and monthly tickets.

Safety

OUR #1 PRIORITY

 

We make safety a part of our daily activities and it is our main priority above all else. Our safety & training program has been recognized for its excellence by the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

History of Palmetto Breeze Transit & Lowcountry Regional Transportation Authority

  • 1978: The Beaufort-Jasper Regional Transportation Authority was established as the primary public transportation provider for Beaufort and Jasper Counties.

  • 1984: Service started to Allendale, Colleton, and Hampton counties. System name changed to Lowcountry Regional Transportation Authority.

  • 1997: Demand response (dial-a-ride) service initiated in Beaufort County. Additional human service agency transportation provided for Programs for Exceptional People, Beaufort-Jasper Comprehensive Health, the Technical College of the Lowcountry and others.

  • 2001: Implementation of three new routes using Job Access & Reverse Commute (JARC) funding.

  • 2003: FAITH volunteer medical transportation program is implemented.

  • 2004: Implementation of Ashley Plantation Shuttle for temporary workers. Allendale County Scooter begins operation.  Pilot Project for the State of South Carolina.

  • 2005: Ridership increased by 37.3% over the previous year.

  • 2006: Bamberg County Handy Ride begins service. (Service Discontinued in 2010)

  • 2010: Lowcountry Coordinated Transportation Service begins.

  • 2017: Walterboro Works Circular Local Service begins

  • 2018: The Breeze Trolley Service begins service on Hilton Head Island

  • 2020: Palmetto Breeze successfully provides continuous commuter and demand-response service despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • 2021: The Breeze Trolley expands service to include two seasonal routes: the South Island Route and the new Mid-Island Route.
